This Viennese Fortepiano was inspired by the Könnecke piano in the collection in Nürnberg and the Könnecke piano supposedly owned by Haydn in the museum in Vienna. I later gutted the instrument to put a new action and soundboard into it because my thinking has changed and I wanted to bring the instrument up to date. That was back in 1996. I built a Graf type action for this instrument because I wanted a more substantial sound and feel to the action to replace the rather diminuative sound and action I originally built. I also wanted to make this instrument with an Una Chorda. That meant putting pedals on it. So now it also has a Moderator and Dampers that are worked by pedals rather than knee levers.
The range of this instrument is FF - f''', 5 octaves, it has ebony naturals and bone topped sharps. You can see from the photo that the instrument is built using Mahogany veneer and solid Mahogany for the lid and legs.
